TKM Guitar Group FAQ

What will I learn in a guitar group?

TKM Guitar Groups are "guitar only" clasees. Material for each Guitar Group is structured to teach three elements of Guitar Musicianship :

  • Technique: teaching your hands what to do physically
  • Theory: learning why what your hands are doing sounds like music
  • Performance: using technique and theory to play music with your Guitar Group

What's the advantage to learning in a guitar group?

  • Students feel a commitment to perform their part to the best of their ability during each Guitar Group meeting and have a higher motivation to practice.
  • The satisfaction of completing class assignments and the reward of performing them with the group.
  • Playing music with other guitarists in a supportive environment quickly builds confidence through performance.

What about different ages and skill levels?

TKM Guitar Groups are for beginner through advanced level students. Age levels are grouped 7-11, 12-16, and 17+.

What happens at the end of the semester?

Students are welcome to continue for a new semester with the same TKM Guitar Group. If a change of age level or class material is desired, students can switch to a different TKM Guitar Group better suited to their educational needs. Students can also enroll in private lessons with any of the TKM instructors and combine private lessons with ongoing participation in TKM Guitar Groups.

Do I have to know how to read music?

A student who is interested in participating in a TKM Guitar Group that cannot read music will benefit from the session just as much as a student that already has experience reading music. Class material is presented in standard notation and TAB and taught through encouraging students to listen, observe and imitate.

How many people are in a TKM Guitar Group?

The enrollment limit of a guitar group is 6 students.

How much? And how can I enroll?

Semester enrollment is required & families are elligible for our "Semester Rewards Program".  After registering online, TKM will contact you for a New Student Interview.  Our interview process assists us in matching your interests and preferences with one of our Guitar Groups. When compared to the cost of a 30 minute private lesson, you'll agree that participating in a Guitar Group is less expensive than private lessons and offers a great value.
