TKM Private Lesson FAQ

What will I learn in private lessons?

Jazz, pop, beginner classical, steel string fingerstyle, metal (including the most extreme styles), 80's hair metal, classic and modern rock, 7-string and 8-string guitar, electric bass guitar, music theory, songwriting and shred guitar technique . . . we have the teacher for your needs.TKM also specializes in beginner lessons for all ages.

Whether learning from method books we've carefully selected for our curriculum or learning your favorite songs,  each private lesson is structured to teach three elements of Guitar Musicianship:

  • Technique: teaching your hands what to do physically
  • Theory: learning why what your hands are doing sounds like music
  • Performance: using technique and theory to play music

What about different ages and skill levels?

We have proven success working with all skill levels! Absolute beginners, casual hobbyists, intermediate and advanced students, as well as touring and recording professionals. After completing our online registration form , TKM music will contact you for a New Student Interview.  Our  interview process assists us in matching your interests and preferences with one of our instructors and helps personalize your lesson program.

Do I have to know how to read music?

A student who is interested in participating in TKM Private Lessons that cannot read music will benefit just as much as a student that already has experience reading music. Lesson material is presented in standard notation and TAB and taught through encouraging students to listen, observe and imitate.

How much? And how can I enroll?

Lesson rates for a 30 minute weekly lesson vary depending on the instructor. The rate is doubled if a student is taking a 60 minute weekly lesson. Please review the TKM Rates & Policy page for more information. New students can register online or call (413) 563-9809.
